Captain x Aja puppies are here

On January 6 Aja whelped 9 puppies by Captain. This was his largest litter and his first litter by frozen semen. We are so excited to meet the puppies and bring home our special one. This litter has 5 boys and 4 girls. All boys are ridged, 2 girls are ridged and 2 are ridgeless. No other faults noted at this time. Aja has been a great mom and the puppies are thriving. Waiting for puppy news

Captains’ first AI breeding is due any minute. We are anxiously awaiting news from Kansas at Tji-Wara RRs to see what this lovely pairing produces. Aja, dam to be is expecting 8-10 puppies. We wish her and everyone involved an easy whelping.

A puppy in her pen

On track to be the smartest puppy ever

I got a great suggestion from a local breeder friend to hang the toys so it would give the puppies something to entertain themselves with. Since she is a singleton, this has worked out great and it’s more fun to watch then an episode of Cops!

Joplin

Little Joplin isn’t so little anymore. At nearly 4 weeks, she is 7.6lbs which is well on track to exceed her sister Porky’s puppy weights. Maybe we should have held off on naming Porky. Joplin is eating like a fat kid who loves cake so we are transitioning her to a lower fat/protein food which will help her so she doesn’t get too big too fast. Currently Joplin is on Wellness Puppy which is a good food but protein/fat ratio of 28/17 seems to be a bit high since she is growing so fast.

Coconut Oil is good for dogs too

One of the many dog lists I’m on is talking about all of the benefits that dogs get from Coconut Oil. This info below seemed to summarize it pretty well. I’m impressed with this and other things I’ve read so tomorrow I’m going to the store for Coconut Oil. Here you have it. So have you used Coconut Oil for yourself? If you use and have seen positive results, give your dog a spoonful! It’s a great snack.

Ten Reasons to Add Coconut Oil to Your Dog’s Diet

My K9s get a loving spoonful of the stuff at every meal – a teaspoonful, to be precise, straight from the bottle.

Fed regularly to pets, coconut oil can have many health benefits – for their skin, digestive and immune systems, metabolic function, even their bone and brain health! Here are the top 10 reasons to add coconut oil to your dog’s diet:

1. Coconut oil improves overall skin health, and clears up skin conditions such as eczema, flea allergies, contact dermatitis, and itchy skin.

2. Incredibly emollient, coconut oil helps moisturize the dryest K9 skin and makes a dog’s coat gleam with health – whether you add it to her diet, her shampoo, or both!

3. Applied topically to the skin, coconut oil  promotes the healing of cuts, wounds, hot spots, bites, and stings.

4. The antibacterial and antifungal properties of coconut oil help reduce doggy odor, and its pleasantly tropical aroma imparts a delightful scent to a dog’s skin and coat.

5. Coconut oil prevents and treats yeast infections, including candida. Its antiviral agents also help dogs recover quickly from kennel cough.

6. Digestion and nutrient absorption are improved by the addition of coconut oil to a dog’s diet. It can, however, cause stool to loosen; if that happens, just add a few spoonfuls of canned pumpkin to your dog’s diet (go here for more stool-firming tips).

7. Coconut oil reduces – and sometimes eliminates – doggy breath. Some dog lovers even brush their pets’ teeth with the stuff! Which makes sense, as dogs love the taste of coconut oil, and that makes the chore less arduous for brusher and brushee.

8. Like cinnamon, coconut oil helps prevent diabetes by regulating and balancing insulin. It also promotes normal thyroid function, and helps prevent infection and heart disease.

9. Helping to reduce weight and increase energy, coconut oil also promotes mobility in dogs with arthritis and other joint issues.

10. Again like cinnamon, coconut oil is excellent for brain health; it’s being used to stave off dementia in humans, and it’s a must to keep senior dogs’ minds from becoming cloudy.

Stylish (and clean) puppies

Pasia is getting wide, large, heavy and if you didn’t know you’d think she looks like table. Big Mama had a bath today so those puppies are going to have a clean mamma to greet them. Today I also bought ribbons for puppies, 6 different kinds with fun patterns. 2 boy patterns, 2 neutural, 2 girl and stylish puppies are on their way! I didn’t know there were so many fun kinds of ribbon, with 50% off I should have bought more, jk!

Getting closer

This weekend was crazy, so much driving 1300 miles worth between Marcin and I. Not much of a Saturday. We set up the whelping box for Pasia and she took to it right away, she must have remembered from last time, as did Bess! Now all I need is something to calm my nerves for the impending labor. Puppies are coming and we’re pretty much ready. Twice daily we have been taking Pasia’s temps and I’ve been refreshing my mind with some great whelping books. Cross fingers for a safe delivery and healthy pups!

My friend Deb Adams, you inspire me to keep up with my blog through all of your blogging. Thanks :)

Weekends

This weekend Marcin and i are driving enough to drive to Denver, and we are going in separate directions. Aeden is going home and headed to a breeder education seminar. the judges are finally going to see something different than plain red wrapper! Go Aeden!

Last weekend our good friend Deb was in town to judge sweeps for our local RE club. The specialty went off without a hitch and the prizes were fabulous. The picnic was well attended and there was plenty of food after so much worrying. Time to prepare for puppies coming!
